Food and Nutrition
Our Rainbow Kids stresses the importance of well balanced nutritious food. This is why we provide natural, primarily organic foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade soups, whole grain breads, etc. The provider strives to prepare meals using non-processed and natural ingredients. Children are served at least two hot meals and three snacks. Freshly soup is served daily.
Parents will provide formula and baby food for infants until the child is 12 months old or can safely eat the regularly scheduled meals. If a child has a particular dietary need, substantiated by a medical evaluation, the staff must be informed and given a doctor’s notice. Substitute meals or snacks may be brought from home.
Snack and lunchtime, like other scheduled activities, are
exceptionally good learning times. Children can learn to serve themselves, to
eat with a group, and to try new foods. They will learn to use utensils and
napkins as their skills develop. They will also learn by watching others, which
is one reason why it is valuable for teachers to sit with children during
meals.
By our keeping health and safety as a primary concern, children learn to
understand and respect each other’s food allergies, as well as family
preferences and beliefs about foods.
Meal plans are in compliance with
USDA Requirements
